You be the judge. Is the Patriot Ledger reporting biased?

by: bowes3

Sun Feb 07, 2010 at 22:22:35 PM EST

Last Thursday South Shore Democrat Caucus held a town meeting with Tim Murray. By all accounts except the Patriot Ledger's Nancy Reardon, it was a great event. Ms. Reardon wrote an article that can only be described as biased reporting. The title of her page twelve article was “Local Democrats express frustration with Patrick’s message”. BelowBoston.com recorded the town hall meeting with Tim Murray.

Here is Nancy Reardon article

Please review the videos. If you agree that Nancy Reardon's reporting was unfair, please write her editor and demand fair and balanced coverage from the Patriot Ledger. editpage@ledger.com

Dr. Margaret Flowers tries to get Obama to hear her

by: Jan A

Sun Feb 07, 2010 at 14:45:21 PM EST

When will our president listen to real people instead of the corporate backed "tea partiers"?  It's time Obama stopped asking for Republican feedback and listened to the people who elected him.

Next Step for Democrats

by: bowes3

Tue Feb 02, 2010 at 23:33:32 PM EST

Next Step for Democrats

The next step for activists is the local Democratic caucus in your community.   The first true test of any Democratic campaign is how much support a candidate can get at the Democratic caucus, where local democrats select delegates to attend the convention in June.  The delegates select the candidates that appear on the Democratic ballot in the primary.  In order to do this, candidates must get 15% of the vote at the convention.

In an election year (like 2010) delegates to the convention are extremely important to the party. They get the first look at candidates and are responsible for screening out candidates that are not viable.  If you would like to take on this responsibility, please run for a delegate slot at your local caucus.   If you do not want to be a delegate we still need your help.  Please go to a caucus and help elect the delegate that will represent you at the convention.

Check local Unemployment rates for your city or town

by: Susan H

Mon Feb 01, 2010 at 19:34:04 PM EST

Link here

The reason I link to this is because despite what Larry Summers said in Davos ~

""What we see in the United States and some other economies is a statistical recovery and a human recession."

Human recession??

No, Mr. Summers, it's a depression when people, individually, and collectively by the MILLIONS, lose their jobs and their families suffer.

When people lose their jobs during the midst of the worst economic climate since the 1930's does anyone think it's easy to find another job?

And this guy, the President's advisor, the same man who worked with Phil Gramm, a  free market radical Republican, while he, Summers, was working for another Democratic President by the name of Bill Clinton to put into place the repeal of Glass Steagall, the same man who loosened every regulation he could, neo-liberal style,(just read Naomi Klein's 'Disaster Capitalism' for what that philosophy entails) who ignored the oversight responsibilities his job came with contributing in the creation of the risk climate that saw the fruition of this misery, ~ does he show any concern?

Not really, he'd rather cajole bankers that~'hey guys we helped you out, come on,please? Pretty please??'

From an interview Summers did with George Stephanoplous in Dec '09

The country did incredible things for the banking industry. Those things had to be done to save the economy, but no major bank would be intact, in a position to pay bonuses, if that extraordinary support had not been provided. The bankers need to recognize that. They need to recognize that they've got obligations to the country after all that's been done for them, and there is a lot more they can do, and President Obama is going to be talking with them about what they can do to support enhanced lending to customers across the country. We were there for them. And the banks need to do everything they can to be sure they're there for customers across this country."

And we wonder why Democrats are in trouble?

I don't wonder.

The adoption of the neoliberal philsophy, the naked pro-corporatism which is fed by campaign contributions from those same corporate interests to too many DLCers aka( new name "Thrid Way"), 'New Democrat', Blue Dogs Democrats and the people are FED UP.

THis is not CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN.

People are PISSED OFF.

The Democratic Party that I want to belong to,that I thought I did, the Party that FDR shaped into a coalition that lasted for nearly 50 years, used to take on the corporations: through regulations like Glass Steagall and tax policies that taxed fairly, progressively, that did not sqeeze the middle class, that provided a safety net, didn't work to shred it. That Democratic Party, the Party of FDR when confronted by massive unemployment did not hold 'job summits'.

No, FDR acted. He hired a man who was given a task:put people to work.....and he did.

His name was Harry Hopkins.

Mr Summers, you sir, are no Harry Hopkins.

Unfortunately.

Can anyone tell me who in this administration is even remotely  similar to Harry Hopkins? Or how about Francis Perkins?

Didn't think so.

That's our problem.

Concern for Wall St over Main St. All part of the neoliberal philosophy adopted by "New Democrats".

Howard Dean visiting Mass. to campaign for Steve Grossman next Monday night

by: Jan A

Mon Feb 01, 2010 at 14:07:50 PM EST

Now that Joe Connolly has dropped out of the Treasurer's race and Steve Grossman is the only declared Democrat left (I believe candidates for state-wide office have only until Feb. 4th to declare), it's a good time to rally around and make sure that a Republican doesn't slip into this influential office.

On Monday, February 8th, there will be a fundraiser for Grossman (see calendar) at the Park Plaza Hotel in Boston.  The featured speaker will be former Vermont governor, 2004 presidential candidate and DNC chair Dr. Howard Dean. As some might remember, Grossman was the chairman of Dean's 2004 presidential campaign.

This is a great opportunity to hear Dean's takes on our recent special election and on the state of health care legislation.  As the cheerleader and implimenter of the successful 50-state strategy in 2006 and 2008, Dean might have handled the Massachusetts Senatorial election differently had he still been the chair of the Democratic National Committee.  His philosophy is generally - don't take any election for granted and don't give up on any race.

For those who would like to go to the fundraiser, but can't afford the $150 price tag - there is a special activist price of $50.  To reserve one of those tickets, email ari@stevegrossman.com or call (617) 625-1010 as soon as possible.

Deaner Reunion, anyone?  Susan? Judeth? Deb? Bueller?

Bully Pulpit: President Obama strikes back . . . in a classy kind of way

by: Jan A

Sat Jan 30, 2010 at 17:12:14 PM EST

Actually, this is more like a pulpit used to talk back to bullies.

For anyone who missed President Obama's Q&A with Republicans, here is a big chunk of it.  The sound is bad in the beginning but gets better after about 2 minutes.

Watching the Republicans speak directly to Obama on camera and seeing him answer them with facts and with toughness, made the Republicans look like the practiced liars and phony politicians they truly are, playing games with our lives for political advantage.  It was reported that afterwards the Republic Party (that's for the creepy Congress lady who kept saying "Democrat Party") knew that by showing the forum live on national television, it had made a big mistake.  A light was shone on their mendacity and it was ugly and mean-spirited. Whereas, Obama appeared calm, but clearly frustrated by their obstructionism.
