Bush's Last Day
01/20/2009

Just because one guy scores a touchdown doesn't mean everyone can Bob Hedlund

Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.

Absolutely.

And some people are born wannabes.

Scott Brown got himself elected a US Senator because of a perfect storm mixing all the ingredients in the atmosphere just so, but that does not mean that lightening can strike twice in the same place.

State Senator Bob Hedlund can dream all he wants about running and winning against Congressman Bill Delahunt but those atmospheric conditions have moved on and we here in Democratic activist land are learning valuable lessons from Martha Coakley's campaign, from exit polls, and even if we local Democrats have to publically prod our President like I did when asked to make a statement to the Hingham Journal, if we have to we will  ~ and enjoy doing it as well!~put ourselves in a position that emphasizes our progressive FDR NEW Deal values and if the President wants to cling to DLC New Democrat language and programs and President Obama does self identify as a 'New Democrat',we acknowldege that in order to win around here that might require distancing ourselves from the President's more corporate friendly rhetoric and policy initiatives.

We KNOW that those FDR New Deal values resonate with the voters who voted for Obama and then voted for Scott Brown or even some democratic leaning voter who found they had to sit this election out rather than keep on enabling an administration that isn't really showing a fight for what matters to them. Exit polls reflect  what the voters want: a public option, more regulation on Wall St. and a jobs program

So think about that Bob Hedlund.

From the "swing voters" - the 18% who voted for Obama (0.00 / 0)
in the presidential election, but voted for Brown in the special election. Research 2000 Poll was taken in Mass. right after the polls closed on Tuesday night.

QUESTION: Which candidate in Tuesday's special election for Senate did a better job of representing you and your family on economic issues: Republican Scott Brown or Democrat Martha Coakley?

             COAKLEY BROWN NEITHER
ALL             13%    25%   62%

MEN             10%    29%   61%

WOMEN           16%    21%   63%

DEMOCRATS       16%    17%   67%

REPUBLICANS      6%    42%   52%

INDEPENDENTS    13%    24%   63%

QUESTION: Would you favor or oppose the national government offering everyone the choice of a government administered health insurance plan -- something like the Medicare coverage that people 65 and older get -- that would compete with private health insurance plans?

              FAVOR OPPOSE NOT SURE
ALL             82%   14%     4%

MEN             79%   18%     3%

WOMEN           85%   10%     5%

DEMOCRATS       89%    7%     4%

REPUBLICANS     68%   24%     8%

INDEPENDENTS    83%   13%     4%

Keep your eyes on the prize and don't believe the lies!

We all need to sit down - Democratic activists- and have a gab session (0.00 / 0)
where all of this gets discussed.

Who has the pulse on what Democrats and democratic leaning Independents are thinking?

Each and every one us who talks to our neighbors and families and friends  those people know of our interest in politics - they know we enjoy conversations about politics and many times THEY are the ones who initiate political conversations.

Unfortunately, I think politicians huddle together talk to one another and reinforce the 1990's Conventioanl Wisdom.

What passed for innovation then is not what people crave now when it comes to governance.

I honestly think the best thing we can do as activists, as Town Committee Members, is have long, frank discussions with as much information as possible about progressives, DLCer's, New Democrats, Blue Dogs, coalitions, goals, campaign rhetoric meeting reality....everything about what just happened and what is going on in DC because it directly affects what happens right down ateveryone's local Town Hall.

I sit on another Committee in Hingham, which I love - celebrating Hingham's (0.00 / 0)
375th Anniversary.

One of the best things about it is that a lot of the other members  who sit on it with me are members of the Hingham Republican Town Committee...betcha didn't think a strong partisan like me could handle that but I love getting their take on what's  going on...it sharpens the debate skills ( in a friendly fashion), and it has proved invaluable even with this blog because of their 'world view' and how they present it.

It probably works both ways...anyway, tonight, one of the HRTC members let slip that she would be seeing our State Senator aka wannabe Congressman to give him a message  and that it was going to be at a VERY IMPORTANT FUNDRAISER for him.

Hmmm,

Someone must be mumbling "If Scott can make it to Washington so can I"  relentlessly.

Someone needs to tell him that good ole Scott got to run in a Special Election and that meant even if Scotty boy lost he got to keep his St  Senate seat....... and that it doesn't work that way when one runs against Bill Delahunt.

Bob Hedlund has never struck me as someone willing to risk anything..... especially the job he has which certainly requires no heavy lifting from him.

Bet Bob is just ready to kill himself that he didn't run against Coakley...it was the Perfect Storm.

But, then again, his seat at the Snug would get lonely.

You can't claim to be for peace unless you're willing to disturb it.

Surely, you jest :) (0.00 / 0)
How can the Senator be continuing to warm a seat at the Snug?   Isn't he the one who stands strongly for family values?  I would think that feeling as he does, he'd be spending evenings at home helping with his son.
